What we publish
Our product research focuses on decisions that are difficult to make from marketing pages alone. We normalize capacity, output, solar input, weight, warranty terms and battery-cycle claims into comparable metrics.
We also use first-party public datasets when they help answer backup-power questions. The U.S. outage reliability study is based on EIA Form EIA-861 state-level distribution reliability metrics rather than scraped outage anecdotes.
Each study links back to the original manufacturer or public-data source. Where we calculate a derived metric, the formula and assumptions are stated so another reader can reproduce the result.
What we do not do
Specification research is not a substitute for independent laboratory testing. Unless a page explicitly says otherwise, our research should not be read as a claim that we measured inverter efficiency, noise, thermal throttling, battery degradation, surge performance or real-world solar harvest ourselves.
State outage statistics are statewide utility averages, not household-level outage forecasts. Local reliability can differ materially from state averages.
We separate published source data from our derived metrics. Estimated runtime, cycle-frequency translations, major-event differences and idealized recharge calculations are explicitly labeled as calculations rather than source-published measurements.
Using our data
Journalists, researchers, publishers and consumers may cite our findings with attribution and a link to the relevant study. Downloadable CSVs and research graphics may be used for analysis and reporting. Source datasets and manufacturer policies can change, so verify current terms and safety-critical specifications before making a purchase or electrical decision.
