What a battery cycle means
Manufacturers generally describe cycle life using full-equivalent charge/discharge throughput. Two 50% discharges can approximate one full equivalent cycle. Exact test methods vary by manufacturer, so cycle claims should be compared with their stated remaining-capacity threshold.
Why the answer is not a lifespan forecast
This calculator divides the published cycle count by your cycle frequency. It does not model calendar aging, temperature, storage state of charge, charge/discharge rate, cell balancing or battery-management behavior. A lightly cycled battery can still age with time.
How depth of discharge changes interpretation
The depth-of-discharge field is displayed as context rather than used to manufacture an unsupported correction factor. Shallower cycling can affect battery wear, but the relationship depends on cell chemistry and the manufacturer’s test conditions. Use the published cycle specification rather than assuming a universal multiplier.
When this tool is useful
It is most useful for comparing how quickly a frequently cycled RV, off-grid or solar battery system could accumulate cycles. For emergency-only backup systems, warranty period, storage conditions and calendar life may matter more than reaching the published cycle count.
