Doubling battery capacity roughly doubles energy available, but it also changes weight, cost and how practical the system is to move.

What matters

  • Capacity in watt-hours determines energy storage; inverter watts determine what can run at once.
  • A 2 kWh unit generally gives far more outage flexibility for refrigeration and cooking loads.
  • A 1 kWh unit is easier to move and may be enough for electronics, CPAP, lights and short refrigerator backup.
  • Compare price per usable Wh, not sticker price alone.
Verdict

Choose 1 kWh when portability dominates. Choose 2 kWh when the unit is primarily an outage asset and you expect refrigeration or higher-energy appliances.

Use the numbers before choosing a model

Start with your load list. The battery needs enough watt-hours for the desired runtime and enough continuous/surge watts to operate the appliances at the same time. Then check whether your recharge method can replace the energy you expect to consume.
